7 Simple Habits That Can Fix 80% Of Your Procrastination and Time Management

You wake up every day and can’t figure out how the time goes by and you get nothing done. The one thing we all have that’s free and available is time. 24 hours every day. However, if you squander it, you can’t get it back. You need a crash course in time management.

1. Have a morning ritual for yourself that starts the day on the right foot.

Practice waking up at the same time every day to help maximize your circadian rhythm

Wake up early, so you have time to prepare for the day

Journal daily. The practice of writing down your goals, what you are grateful for, and affirmations will improve your mindset for the day

Make time for exercise. As little as a 10-minute stretch or 15-minute walk makes all the difference

Meditate Daily. A 5-minute break, focusing on your breath, will make a world of difference. Increase the time when you can; however, pick a certain amount of time that is a non-negotiable to give yourself time in the precious present

2. Get ready for a Social Media Detox

Keep track of time when you indulge in your phone; the best way is to keep a timer when you use your phone

Use the night mode on your phone at night to not disrupt your natural sleep hormones, such as melatonin, which is blue-light sensitive.

Spend an hour without touching your phone/tv, or tablet and notice how much you enjoy it.

3. Build in daily Non-Negotiables

When you make deposits in the bank, your wealth grows. These activities are the deposits you make in your health account. Making them habits assures that you’re always committed to taking better care of yourself. Here’s a list of my non-negotiables:

20- minute exercise session

64 ounces of water

Cup of coffee or tea

10-minute meditation

Read two pages of a book

Watch a sunrise or sunset (or look at pictures of one)

Eat within an 8-hour window every 24 hours

Write in your journal for 10 minutes (includes my gratitude statement)

Stop eating 3 hours before bed

Turn off all electronics 30 minutes before bed

4. Maximize Time Management by using the 5-minute Rule

If you can do something that takes less than 5 minutes to complete, do it right away

5. Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is the equivalent of plugging your smartphone in to recharge. Your body needs sleep to process and clean out all of the byproducts of cellular respiration during your waking hours. It’s called autophagy. It is the body’s way of cleaning out damaged cells, in order to regenerate newer, healthier cells. Without enough rest, you can’t prepare your body to enjoy or improve your life.

Your brain knows when you’ve cheated yourself out of enough sleep. Not taking enough rest makes you cranky and reduces your concentration ability.

Time Management can start with a good nights rest.

6. Follow 80/20 Rule

The Pareto Principle, or the 80/20 rule, states that for many phenomena 80% of the result comes from 20% of the effort.

Invest most of your energy and time on those specific tasks that create a big impact and maximize your productivity

7. Plan Your Day The Night Before

Investing a few minutes the night before could save you an hour of more or scrabbling and wasting time tomorrow. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Take a review of the day, 5-10 minutes is all that it takes so that you are ready to hit the ground running in the morning

Things seem simpler when everything is planned and ready for you to take action.
